09 Jul WHAT TYPES OF INFLUENCERS ARE THERE TODAY?
What’s the definition of an influencer? It depends on who you ask. But to many, influencers are defined as individuals who have built a reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a specific topic who can often persuade others due to their authenticity and reach. Apart from live streamers, there are several types of influencers:
- Bloggers and Vloggers: Folks who share their insights, opinions, and experiences through blog posts or video blogs (vlogs). Practitioners typically focus on a specific niche, such as fashion, food, fitness, technology, or travel.
- Social Media Influencers: These influencers primarily use social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Snapchat to reach their followers. You’ll typically see that they create content related to lifestyle, fashion, beauty, fitness, travel, or other specific niches.
- Podcasters: Folks who have gained popularity through podcasting and host audio or video series, generally on specific topics or interview-based formats, and distribute them online.
- Thought Leaders: Experts in a specific field who have earned a reputation for their deep knowledge and expertise. Perhaps they are influencers in academia, business, science, or any number of professional fields.
- Household Names: Traditional celebrities like actors, musicians, and athletes can also be influencers. It often helps that name brand personalities have large, established audiences that brands often want to reach.
- Micro-Influencers: Ironically, these influencers might have fewer followers than the mainstream influencers (typically between 1,000 and 100,000), but their audiences are often more highly engaged and niche-specific.
- Nano-Influencers: Folks who have even smaller audiences (usually less than 1,000 followers), but again their followers are super interested and active and have strong connections with the influencer.
- Fitness Influencers: A top source that provides fitness tips, workout routines, and nutrition advice and often partner with fitness and health brands.
- Food and Beverage Influencers: Experts who focus on cooking, baking, food and drink pairings, restaurant reviews, or other food-related content.
- Travel Influencers: Nomads who travel to various locations and share their experiences, often promoting hotels, airlines, travel gear, or tourist destinations.
- Gaming Influencers: People who share video game content, including reviews, playthroughs, and gaming news. Participants here often have partnerships with game developers and brands related to high-tech gear.
- Tech Influencers: People who review and talk about the latest gadgets, software, and tech news and tend to work with consumer electronics or online companies.
Each of these influencers has a unique set of followers and provides different opportunities for brands looking to advertise their products or services.
