What is a brand ambassador? As definitions go, picture it as a person hired by a company or organization to represent a brand in a positive light and help increase brand awareness and sales. To one extent, they are essentially the “face” of the company and are expected to embody the corporate identity in appearance, values, and ethics.
Bearing this in mind, brand ambassadors can come in many forms:
- Celebrity Ambassadors: These are well-known figures, such as actors, musicians, athletes, or public figures who endorse products and services typically through advertising campaigns, event appearances, or social media promotions.
- Social Media or Influencer Ambassadors: Individuals who have a significant following on social media platforms and collaborate with brands to showcase their products or services to their followers.
- Customer Ambassadors: Satisfied customers who are eager to promote a brand or product simply because they love it. To this extent, they might share their positive experiences with their own networks, increasing word-of-mouth marketing.
- Employee Ambassadors: These are employees who represent their company both inside and outside of work and help promote their company’s products and services, and can also help with recruitment.
Overall, it helps to consider that brand ambassadors are generally expected to complete a variety of tasks including:
- Using, promoting, and being knowledgeable about the brand’s products or services.
- Representing the company at events or tradeshows.
- Using social media to create awareness about the brand.
- Engaging in word-of-mouth marketing practices.
- Providing feedback and insights to the company about the products and customers.
Effective partners and brand ambassadors are those who truly love and believe in the products they’re endorsing and are capable of spreading that enthusiasm to others. You’d view them as knowledgeable, personable and able to maintain a strong presence online and/or in their communities.
